Getting The Best Results While Scanning Photos

How you scan your photo can have a big impact on how it looks. These are some quick tips to help you get the best scan.

Use a dry cloth or canned air to remove any dust from the photograph. Spray a cloth with glass cleaner on the scanner and wipe it down. Spray the cloth with the cleaner, but not directly on the glass. This will remove dust and smudges from your final scan. Before you use any cleaners, Camscanner make sure to consult your scanner's manufacturer. It is important not to use any cleaners that could cause damage to the scanner.

After you are sure that everything is clean, find the settings of your scanner. These settings can be accessed on the scanner, but sometimes they will need to be accessed through your computer. If you are unable to find the settings you need, consult your scanner's manual. You will need to verify the following settings: dpi and color mode.

The dpi (dots/inch) is the number of dots per square inch. The higher the number, the better the photo's resolution will be. Setting the dpi at 72 is fine if you plan to only use the scan on your computer and never print it. You can increase the dpi to 100 or 200 depending on how large you need your image. For small images, you should set the resolution to 600 dpi if you plan on printing it. You can set your scanner to 600 if it won't.

Your color mode should be set to RGB. Use CMYK if you plan to print the photo. You can scan your black-and-white photo in color, but not in that mode.

If you are unable to save your photos as.PNG,.TIFF or.TIFF, then JPEGs may be used. However they can be compressed with lossy compression. Lossless compression is used by.PNGs as well as.TIFFs. Compression refers to the reduction of some data from an image in order to reduce its file size. The image quality remains high with lossless compression. Lossy compression can cause a loss in image quality and may have a negative impact on final images. This is especially true if the image will be edited. The quality of the image will decrease the more you open it and save it to edit.

All you need to do now is scan the image. High quality, great photos should be saved to your computer. Your scanner may have a problem if your scan shows large horizontal streaks or vertical streaks. Get in touch with the manufacturer.

These instructions may seem complex at first glance but they are actually quite easy. To get beautiful scanned photos, all you need is some cleaning up and a few settings changes.
